Study of Reconstruction of Rural Roads in Place of Renewal Work

Scope and objectives

Usually renewal work is carried out over rural roads in 6-8 years time period. In this proposed project, reconstruction of roads is to be done in place of renewal work. First of all strengthening of the rural roads shall be carried out as per crust requirement and subsequently first and second cost painting shall be done. The study on cost incurred vis-à-vis achievement-performance of the road shall be carried out.

Methodology
It is proposed to conduct the above mentioned research proposal under following steps:
(i) Two different sections of road, 1.0 km each of the same village shall be selected for research proposal.
(ii) In one section renewal work shall be carried out after repairing pot holes & patches. Bitumen grade 60/70 shall be used for      this purpose.
(iii) In another section after scrapping painted surface, strengthening of the road shall be done with WBM grade III as per      design requirement (In present proposal one coat of 7.5 cm compacted thick WBM is proposed)
(iv) After WBM, first and second coat painting work shall be done.
(v) Road conditions shall be studied for 4 years taking 6 monthly observations on longitudinal and lateral ruts, as well as cracks      over a space of 1x3.0 m area at every 100 m interval

Utilisation Potential

The study will provide new factual position about reconstruction of rural roads in place of renewal work.

Limitations

The proposal is in the initial stage and placed for the sanction of project and funds.
