COMPLETED PROJECTS
Commercial Production of Multigrade Bitumen

Duration: April 2004 to March 2005
Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, R&D Centre, Faridabad (R)

Present Status & Progress

Based on technology developed by R&D Centre, Indian Oil Corporation, Multigrade Bitumen (MGB) was commercially produced at CPCL, Chennai.

Findings/Conclusions

Multigrade Bitumen has high viscosity/stiffness at high temperature and low viscosity/stiffness at low temperature in comparison to conventional Bitumens. MGB has high penetration index and improved resistance to temperature susceptibility. Therefore MGB is less susceptible to temperature and has high resistance to pavement deformation.

Recommendations
The performance of the product will be evaluated by conducting field trials in both hot and cold climatic regions.
