Evaluation of Resilient Modulus on Soils as per AASHTO T-294

Scope and Objectives
Evaluation of Resilient Modulus of cohesive soils, an input for design of flexible pavement

Methodology

(i) As per AASHTO T-294 samples of size 102 mm diameter and 203 mm height prepared and tested.
(ii) Samples were prepared at optimum moisture content.
(iii) A servo controlled universal test machine was used to simulate the cyclic load as per AASHTO T-294.
(iv) The tests were conducted at various deviator stresses ranging from 20 to 76 k Pa.

Conclusions

(i) The resilient modulus value of clayey soils at optimum moisture content has been found to be in range of 70 to 90 M Pa.
(ii) Increase of 20 to 76 k Pa of deviator stress shows, 6 to 11% of decrease on resilient modulus.
(iii) Resilient modulus values increased by 52% by the addition of 3% lime.
(iv) Correlation between resilient modulus and CBR was derived from the test data.
