NEW PROJECTS
Scope of the use of Marble Slurry Dust (MSD) in high performance concrete formulations

Date of Start: October 2004
Central Road Research Institute, New Delhi (R, I)

Scope and Objectives
Preparation of High performance concrete (HPC) by incorporation of MSD as partial substitute of sand and use of (i) admixtures for preparation of workable concrete mixes (ii) fly ash and silica fumes for high strength and durability and (iii) fibres (mineral and synthetic) for the study of stress-strain relationship and post failure ductility.

Methodology

Various cement concrete formulations shall be prepared by incorporating MSD and other admixtures for HPC. Dosages of superplasticizers shall be optimised to obtain the desired workability of MSD concrete mixes. The strength, elastic modulus, water absorption, abrasion, permeability, drying shrinkage and durability characteristics of these formulation will be assessed in the laboratory.

Significance/Utilisation
Potential Bulk utilisation of MSD in concrete works shall control the dust menace of the area causing air and water pollution besides occupying large area near marble cutting unit. It would also help in converting a waste material into a usable product.

Limitations

Formulations developed need to be tried and monitored in the field
