Computer Aided Design of Concrete Pavements

Scope and Objectives
The main objective of this work is design of concrete pavement based on IRC:58-2002 by using computer software. Manual design of concrete pavements take more time and is prone to errors, calculations involve trail and error. Computer aided design reduces time and increase the efficiency. Software for design of concrete pavements has been developed in visual basic 6.0 environment. These stresses under critical load points of the pavement are found out by using the westergaard’s equations as modified by Teller and Sutherland.

Findings and Conclusions
(i) Software package has been developed in Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 environment.
(ii) The software is based on IRC:58-2002, which provides guidelines for design of plain jointed rigid pavements.
(iii) The software runs any Microsoft windows operating system.
(iv) The software package has the following capabilities :
     a. The thickness of concrete pavement is designed based on effects of wheel loads and temperature stresses, and stress          at the corner region.
     b. Provides dowel bar spacing and diameter.
     c. And also, gives the spacing and length of tie bars.
