Intra Urban Goods Movement Characteristics in Surat City

Scope and Objective
(i). To understand and analyze the goods movement characteristics of the city
(ii). To estimate the good traffic flow of Surat with special reference to textile related goods
(iii). To understand and identity the factors influencing the infra-urban freight traffic generation

Methodology
(i). Reconnaissance Survey to identify the Goods Generating Points & Goods Traffic zone system
(ii). Field data are collected by Goods vehicle driver interview, Outer Cordon Count & Traffic Volume Count

Findings and Conclusions
(i). The goods transport survey reveals that the internal goods movement are dominated by autos
(ii). The average trip length of heavy vehicle serving inter-urban goods movement is found as 407.65 km, LCV’s has the       average trip length of 328.92 km
(iii). The maximum textiles commodities trips are generated and attracted at the traffic zones located around the Ring Road        below flyover, which is known as textile market
