Optimization of Signalized Intersection Networking using TRANSYT/11: A case study in Gujarat State

Scope and Objective
In this study TRANSYT/11 is applied at different level considering Single Intersection, Arterial and Network as whole, using TRANSYT. Optimal Signal Timing were designed for all the application considering the existing cycle length as well as Optimum Cycle Length obtain by using CYOP-Module. Performance of existing Signal Timing & Optimal Signal Timing are evaluated by using TRANSYT result.
(i). Design of optimal Signal Timing plan for the Southwest Network of Surat city using TRANSYT/11. In order to reduce to      delay, No. of stops, queue length, fuel consumption etc.
(ii). Evaluation of study result to know what extent the optimal signal timing performance is better than existing Signal Timing      performance.

Methodology
(i). Reconnaissance Survey to under the field situation
(ii). Preliminary data collection viz, Speed & Delay and Spot Speed & to decide corridors for network Optimization
(iii). Applying TRANSYT/11 to the collected Data for Optimization

Findings and Conclusions
(i). It was found from the study with double cycling of two intersection (For Corridor-II) Delay & Stop can be Optimized
(ii). The Overall cost per average PCU/hr of delay and overall cost per 100 PCU – Stops have been worked out to be 8409       paise & 3458 paise respectively
(iii). Closely Spaced Intersection Perform better than widely spaced signal which is evident in this study
