Humps and Their Impact on Vehicular Movement

Date of Start:July 2004
Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur (R, I)

Scope and Objective
To study various aspects of the impact of humps (bumps) on vehicular movement and to relate hump geometry to the extent of impact.

Methodology
Detailed data on speed profiles, acceleration profiles, and deceleration profiles at humps of different geometry was collected using accurate radar guns. This data was analyzed to determine empirical relations between the effect of the hump and the hump geometry.

Findings and Conclusions
Simple relations between easily measured geometric features of humps and its impact on vehicular motion have been determined.
