An Approach for Optimal Rural Road Network Planning Using Cluster Analysis : A case study of Pudukkottai District of Tamil Nadu

Scope and Objective
(i) To prioritize the villages of the study area by cluster analysis and by utility value method suggested by rural roads manual
(ii) To develop the rural road network based on the two methods
(iii) To compare the efficiency of the network by a suitable index and select the best alternative
(iv) To fix up the link priority by ant colony optimization
(v) To evolve a scientific method for rural road network planning based on the results

Methodology
The study is based on the census data, demographic and socioeconomic factors of the villages.

Findings and Conclusions
From the work did so far cluster analysis technique is found to be efficient for grouping the villages and thereby developing an efficient network.
