C. TRAFFIC AND TRANSPORTATION
Modelling Transportation Demand for Infrastructure Planning

Date of Start: January 2004
Indian Institute of Technology Madras (R, C)

Scope and Objective
Broad Objective
Develop a framework and constituent models to analyse the time varying nature of demand for transportation infrastructure.
Specific Objectives
(i) To develop models to explain the dynamics in demand modelling i.e. temporal variation
(ii) To capture the effect of some of the policy sensitive factors on travel demand

Scope of the work is limited to the development of the models with regard to two main to travel dimensions:
(a). Trip production for work trips and
(b). Mode choice models for work trips only

Methodology
(i) Develop survey questionnaire to conduct household travel survey to collect richer time - varying Data
(ii) Develop Dynamic Models: Trip Frequency and Mode choice
(iii) Calibrate the developed models (iv) Analyse the effect of policy sensitive factors
