Integration of GIS and GPS for Travel Time Behaviour Studies

Scope and Objective
(i) Geo-referencing the city roads of Tiruchirappalli urban area
(ii) Speed and delay studie s
(iii) Representation of survey route in GIS
(iv) Geo-coding of speed data
(v) Network analysis.
Scope of this thesis is the alternate path can be clearly shown in the digitized map which gives the traveler information system.

Methodology
Field study in Tiruchirappalli Urban Area.Data collection using Leica GS5 GPS receiver and data logged in COMPAQ pocket PC. The speed data collected is to be processed in ARCINFO packages. The data was analysed and presented as maps and graphs using ARCMAP 8.3. Network analysis is done for the Tiruchirappalli major road network.

Findings and Conclusions

The geo-referenced map for whole Tiruchirappalli road network is created indicating NH, SH and District roads. Speed studies were conducted on major Tiruchirappalli and congested area are represented in GIS map. Speed data collected by receiver is colour coded for its various range and represented along the survey route. Shortest path is found by network analysis.
