ON GOING PROJECTS
Development of Data Center for National Highways using GIS

Duration: September 2003
Central Road Research Institute, New Delhi (R)

Present Status and Progress

Present Status and Progress The primary objective of the study is to develop the data center for National Highways in GIS environment on pilot scale basis. The ultimate goal of this project is to develop an intelligent map and database, which is useful in planning and maintenance of National Highways. The beauty of this database is that it can easily be updated from time to time.
Basic preparatory work has been completed by preparing base map of India at 1:1M scale showing spatial features in different layer, which includes State boundaries, District boundaries, Major towns and National Highways identified as per census 2001. In pilot scale, spatial data is being prepared at 1:250,000 scale for Haryana State.

Findings/Conclusions
Results of the study are expected to lead to planning of better transport facility with proper maintenance management system through database. Final report on the study is under preparation.

Limitations
Some of the restricted maps are not presently available.
