3.PAVEMENT PERFORMANCE
COMPLETED PROJECTS
Evaluation of Pavement Classification Number (PCN) of Runway at Port Blair

Duration: : April 2003 to August 2004
Central Road Research Institute, New Delhi (R)

Present Status and Progress
Based on the granular equivalency factors, visual condition of the airfield pavement and laboratory test results, appropriate conversion factors for each component layer were determined and the equivalent granular thickness for the artificial pavement computed. PCN was then calculated based on total equivalent thickness, subgrade CBR and traffic data etc,.

Findings/Conclusions
PCN value for the complete runway was finally deduced and reported as 78/F/C/W/T and thus recommended. It was observed that though the total of the significant actual movements of present and future traffic slightly exceeds 10 movements per day, the equivalent traffic movement is far less than 10 movements.
